The Herberger Institute is more than a design and arts college: It’s a creative city of over 6,000 people, with more designers and artists than work in the city of St. Louis or in metropolitan Atlanta. Throughout history, the commingling of creative people in a dense, open, collaborative environment has been the source of great innovation. Herberger Institute is one of those sources, and Disrupt is a look back at what we accomplished together in 2018-19.

This issue of Disrupt is organized around four touchstones that are central to our work at the Herberger Institute:

Centering student thriving: Focus on the academic, social and community well-being of our students.
Art at the intersections: Champion the power of art and design to transform ideas and practices in other sectors including science, health, sustainability and development.
Projecting all voices: Center and advance those artists and designers whose lived experience and professional work are historically underrepresented or underinvested.
Creativity and place: Advance practice and pedagogy that supports arts and design integration into comprehensive, equitable community design and planning.

And check out highlights from our individual schools School of Art; School of Arts, Media and Engineering; The Design School; School of Film, Dance and Theatre; School of Music – and the ASU Art Museum.

I hope you enjoy and share!
